"Nat is a joyful performer and talented educator. He has a gift for framing and explaining the music so that you walk away having learning the history and context that make the music important, all while having a great time."

Workshop topics
1. The Classic Klezmer
Join Nat Seelen, Artistic Director of the Boston Festival of New Jewish Music and clarinetist with Ezekiel's Wheels Klezmer Band for an interactive introduction to klezmer music. We'll review the history of our music, key musicians, recordings, and readings you need to know, then play, dance, and sing along to favorites from the klezmer repertoire.
2. Let's write a new klezmer tune... together!
Join Nat Seelen, Artistic Director of the Boston Festival of New Jewish Music and clarinetist with Ezekiel's Wheels Klezmer Band to demystify the (klezmer) compositional process. We'll talk about the basic building blocks of klezmer music, discuss an approach to writing new music in the klezmer tradition, and then create a brand new tune using your input, all in the amount of time it takes to finish a proper bagel and lox. And, of course, we'll dance!
3. Build a bulgar
Join Nat Seelen, Artistic Director of the Boston Festival of New Jewish Music and clarinetist with Ezekiel's Wheels Klezmer Band to create a new bulgar together. We'll learn what makes the bulgar a favorite of the klezmer dance repertoire, then master the rhythms and steps as we write and perform and original tune together.
4. Custom experience
I'll work with you to craft the perfect creative experience for your community. It should probably have something to do with music. Beyond that, the sky's the limit!
“Nat is a joy to work with. He takes the time to listen to the goals and context of the workshop, and then works within them to produce an engaging, educational and fun experience for attendees. I would highly recommend Nat to lead a workshop for any community!”
